Alde Estuary Walks for Early Birds

From delightful bird song in spring to rare waders in autumn and winter, we will introduce you to some of the natural jewels of the Suffolk coast.

Join David for a leisurely morning stroll on the banks of the River Alde to listen to and see some fantastic birds which are coming to the estuaries' shores to feed, sing and breed, and to stay for a couple of weeks or a whole season.

The birds are certainly the most exciting part of these walks and with one of Suffolk's best birders on your side, you will find that his endless enthusiasm for our feathered friends is very infectious. David and Monika will also point out further opportunities to enjoy nature and the wild scenery while strolling through reedbeds and marshes. Especially the sunrise over the estuary can be stunning and whenever possible in the winter months, they will guide you to the best place to enjoy (and photograph) it.

We offer these walks in autumn, winter and spring with changing routes and topics, taking into account the seasonal changes in bird life on the estuary. We will return to Snape Maltings in time for the Granary Tea Shop to be open.

The walks are suitable for all levels of knowledge, including families with children of over 10 years. Please consider that we will walk up to 6km and parts of the route can have rough, muddy, sandy or uneven ground. Sensible clothing and waterproof closed footwear are recommended. Our route is not fully accessible to wheelchairs normally, but we can change it to one that is, if you ask us for it at the time of booking. We are sorry we cannot accept dogs for this walk, as the birds could take them to be potential predators and would disappear from our sight.

Price: £15 per person. Please note that booking in advance is essential. Places are limited to ten participants and we need a minimum of six to go ahead.

Please either complete our booking form below, use our Eventbrite pages to book and pay for your place(s) or email your request to Monika@WASuffolk.com. Monika will reply to your enquiry within 48 hours and send you the payment details. Please do contact her if you don't seem to receive a reply to your online booking.

Please be aware that strong winds limit the birds' activities and, therefore, we reserve the right to cancel the walks due to wind and weather conditions. We will fully refund your fees under these circumstances.
