Photography Days on Havergate
These days will give you plenty of time to get really personal with the island's wildlife
Spend an exclusive, full day on Suffolk's only island with up to twelve hours of observation, photographic opportunities, fun and tuition in this wonderfully diverse and fragile habitat. Explore the unique coastal landscape; find remains from hidden history; watch the island's wildlife and take time out to learn from our professional wildlife photography tutor, helping you to capture nature's beauty on your camera forever.
Havergate's importance lies in its impact on bird conservation in the UK. We expect to see a good variety of wading birds, ducks, possibly an owl, little egrets, marsh harriers, spoonbills, flocks of avocets, various gulls and terns at certain times of the year - to name just a few. And with some luck and fieldcraft, you may even get up close and personal with one of the island's famous wild brown hares.
Award winning (BWPA 2015, Four Seasons Category) wildlife photographer Kevin Sawford will be around to help you further with your camera's settings, to point you in the right direction to find the birds and hares and to help you with your fieldcraft to get you closer to the wildlife. You also will have plenty of time to practise your new skills and to discover the whole length of the island.
We have a very personal approach to our events and Kevin and Monika take pride in tailoring these days to your needs and expectations. Therefore, please let us know about your preferences. You will have to bring your own equipment and photography beginners and intermediates can get help from Kevin for all camera types. Of course, experts are equally welcome on these days and they can explore the accessible part of the island on their own.
You will need to bring your own food and drinking bottle, and we will provide fresh drinking water, a selection of organic or Fairtrade teas, fresh filtered coffee and hot chocolate throughout the day. We also serve a bowl of hot soup with a slice of bread for lunch or tea time.
You need to have a reasonable level of fitness for this trip as sometimes it requires getting off the boat via a ladder and walking with your equipment on uneven, muddy or wet ground.
Price: £124 per person. We will have exclusive access to the island, need a minimum of seven bookings and places are limited to ten participants. Booking well in advance is essential. The fee includes exclusive admission, boat trip, optional photography guidance, hot drinks and soup with bread.
Please email us your enquiry at Monika@WASuffolk.com with your details. Monika will reply within 48 hours to discuss possible dates and the payment options.
In adverse wind conditions, this event may be cancelled at short notice at the skipper's or organiser's discretion; in this case, you will get a full refund of your booking fee.
30% of the fees will go to the RSPB to fund nature conservation on the Suffolk coast. Please find more information about RSPB Havergate Island on www.rspb.org.uk/havergateisland.
