Photographing Suffolk Punch Horses
Spend an exclusive afternoon of photography training with award winning (Four Seasons Category, BWPA 2015) wildlife photographer Kevin Sawford and Suffolk's most famous horses at the Suffolk Punch Trust's historic Colony Stud.
We will start our workshop with a short introduction to both the history of the stud and the impressive Suffolk Punch horses - an English breed of draught horses. Kevin will briefly discuss some of the various challenges of animal and wildlife photography, followed by a light lunch (included in the fee) at the visitor centre. This will give us all an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas, interests and expectations for the afternoon.
Kevin will make sure you are familiar with your camera's functions and settings before you will head out with him and Monika to meet the endangered Suffolk Punch horses.
We will have access onto the grazing meadows and will be supported by staff from the Suffolk Punch Trust in getting the heavy horses into ideal positions for our photography. You will have plenty of opportunities to get very close to the horses, to practise your new skills and to review the results with Kevin. There will also be time to discover the extensive grounds where many other rare breed farm animals live.
We will have exclusive access to the site far beyond the normal opening time and until sunset. This will give us the best opportunities to photograph the animals at their feeding times in the afternoon, in the soft light of the 'Golden Hour' and hopefully under a stunning sky or with a nice sunset in the background before we finish the day.
Kevin's photography guidance is intended for photography beginners and intermediates. You will have to bring your own equipment and can get help for all camera types. Of course, photography experts are equally welcome and we will do our best to tailor the workshop to everyone's expectations.
You need to have a reasonable level of fitness for this workshop as it requires walking with your equipment on uneven, muddy or wet ground on the tracks and meadows of a working farm.
Price: £78 per person. Booking in advance is essential.
Please either complete our booking form below, use our Eventbrite pages to book your place(s) or email your request to Monika@WASuffolk.com. Monika will reply to your enquiry within 48 hours and send you the payment details. Please do contact her if you don't seem to receive a reply.
In adverse wind conditions, this workshop may have to be cancelled at short notice at the organiser's discretion; in this case, you will get a full refund of your booking fee.
30% of the fees will go to The Suffolk Punch Trust to help protect the future of the endangered Suffolk Punch breed.
